Meglena Kuneva is the New European Commissioner
The Minister of the European Affairs Meglena Kuneva is the new European Commissioner. She will start her career in the EC (European Commission) in 2007 and I'm really happy that exactly Meglena Kuneva will represent the country. All we know that the commissioners are not in the EC to defence the interests of their own countries but to protect and to think about the European Union as a whole. The field in which the bulgarian commissioner will work is "Health and Consumer Protection". I can say is responsible position. But I'm sure that she can manage with the red tape, with the etiquette and style of the EU, with the tough task to be part of one of the most powerful executive bodies of the European union.

Thanks God, that this time the Governement made good choice.

P.S
Romania has not the same good luck. The EU was not so happy with the romanian choice so they should look for new one. And hopefully next time the future romanian commissioner will be with clear dossier and not be part of State Security

they could not make a mistake, because this was the only one real, available choice.

if you ask me, I will tell you in Bulgaria there is always variant "Huge mistake". I don't know how but we can confuse everything never mind that for the rest of the world there is "only one way". Especially in the policy :)

european comissioners are important figures, but they serve more the comission and the union than their national interests. this is why kuneva says "i am happy that i will be the first bulgarian citizen - member of the european comission" but not "the first bulgarian eu comissioner". a small but vital difference.

she's however extremely representative, very calm, diplomatic, stylish, and good-looking. she will unshame (otsrami) us for sure.

the key positions are for instance, representative in the council of europe, who bargains all accession and adhesion fungs, and so forth. there you need a firm individual who can defend national interests. i hope they don't screw up on that one. for kuneva it's true, there was simply no other choice. there were enough hints.

wow, very good. You noticed that she said "i am happy that i will be the first bulgarian citizen - member of the european comission" and not "the first bulgarian eu comissioner".Since 2004 the members of the EC are one for each member-state and not two commissioners from the big countries and one from the smaller members. I mean is something like special terminology for the EU.

About the council of europe. I'm sure that you mean European Council (there are three different organisations - Council of the European Union, European Council and Council of Europe). So, the most important institution is the European Council and at the Summit, as they call it, can participate so many people that according to me the national interest will be the last thing, because many of the decisions should be taken with unanimity (up to now). We will see what's going on with the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe.

And maybe you are right. There was no other choice.
